The five fundamental Buddhist precepts are: do
not kill, do not steal, do not involve in sexual misconduct, do not engage in
false speech, and do not drink alcohol.
The term “vegetarian” in Buddhism refers to
those who do not eat meat and therefore do not kill animals for food.
Nonetheless, “the desire for food and sex is part of human nature,” as these
are the basic need for human survival. Thus, the world we live in is referred
to as the desire realm in Buddhism.
A strict and proper observance of sexual
conduct in Buddhist practitioners’ behavior is very important. Dignifying
sexual practices in any form or name has nothing to do with Buddhist
cultivation whatsoever.
