“As is the mind, so is the Buddha;
As the Buddha, so living beings;
Know that Buddha and mind
Are in essence identical."
Remarks:
The real door of Consciousness-Only (vijñāna-only;真實唯識門) explains: The ālayavijñāna is not the true “self” because it contains many seeds that cause sentient beings to fall into cyclic existence and to be entrapped within the delimited (分段生死) and transformational existence (變易生死).
The seeds of ignorance, karmic force, and afflictions contained in the ālayavijñāna entrap sentient beings within the stream of transmigration. For this reason, the ālayavijñāna is said not the true “self” and is not real. The real door of Consciousness-Only then reveals that the ālayavijñāna inherently possesses the essential nature that can enable sentient beings to be liberated from the delimited existence, which is the inherently pure nirvāṇic nature. This inherently pure nirvāṇic nature is what a Buddhist relies on to eradicate afflictions through cultivation to attain the nirvāṇa with remainder, the remainderless nirvāṇa, and the non-abiding nirvāṇa. It is also this inherently pure nirvāṇic nature that enables Buddhist practitioners to eliminate all latent cognitive hindrances belonging to the beginningless ignorance and to attain the ultimate Buddhahood. This specific essential nature is fully present in the ālayavijñāna, and practitioners who have realized such vijñāna can rely on it to gain an insightful comprehension of its nature.
Eventually, these enlighteners will completely achieve the wisdom of liberation and the wisdom of prajñā. With these two aspects of wisdom fully achieved, enlighteners will be able to totally eradicate their delimited existence and transformational existence. At this stage, the ālayavijñāna will be renamed the immaculate vijñāna. This, then, is the eighth vijñāna of the Buddha Ground: the reality-suchness (真如), the real reality-suchness.
