The wondrous fruition of Bodhi is not difficult to accomplish, but a truly enlightened mentor is very difficult to encounter.

Dasheng Bensheng Xin Di Guan Jing, Vol. 3

"The wondrous fruition of Bodhi is not difficult to accomplish, [but] a truly enlightened mentor is very difficult to encounter.
All bodhisattvas who cultivate the supreme path to Buddhahood should be aware of the Four Essentials of Dharma.
First, strive to become close to wholesome and virtuous [Dharma] friends,
Second, listen to the true Dharma.
Third, correctly reason the doctrinal principles.
Finally, practice to attain enlightenment according to the Dharma.
All the great ultimate saints in the ten directions have practiced according to these Four Essentials of Dharma to attain the Bodhi."

Remarks:

The holistic approach is very much needed to develop our inner wisdom to access the insight of Buddhas' teachings. First and foremost, it's a necessity for us to be guided by a true mentor who has penetrative wisdom. Only through our retrospection of what we have learned and put them into actual practices distinctively can we bring forth the merit and virtues of Buddhist inner wisdom.
