The Treatise on the Great Perfection of Wisdom, Vol.12

"Those who do not observe the precepts but engage in earning wealth through improper channels or wrongful means, and even use the earnings for donations, will undergo rebirth as animals to become elephants, horses, or cows. Although they are born to suffer from physical abuses such as being whipped, tied-up, being ridden, or forced to carry heavy loads, they would still be able to enjoy a good livelihood with an abundant supply of food, well taken care of, and cherished by human beings."
The Treatise on the Great Perfection of Wisdom, Vol.12

「不持戒人,若鞭打拷掠閉繫,枉法得財而作布施,生象、馬、牛中,雖受畜生形,負重鞭策,羇靽乘騎,而常得好屋好食,為人所重,以人供給。」《大智度論》卷12

Remark:

The quote highlights the truth of cause and effect about karma. The consequences of cause and effect differ among individuals which depend entirely on one’s own karma. Each person is responsible for their own myriad of past deeds.
